Look at the whole doorway
A lock works with a handle, latch, frame and door. Say whether the issue started suddenly or gradually and whether anything looks loose or damaged. You do not need to take the hardware apart to explain what you noticed.
If the door only locks when it is lifted or pulled, include that observation. It helps distinguish the request from changing who has a key. Rekeying should not be treated as a cure for every stiff or misaligned doorway.
Avoid making the symptom worse
Do not force a key that is bending or keep testing hardware that feels as though it may break. If the entrance cannot be used safely, choose another appropriate way to wait and explain the access situation when calling.
For a business entrance, tell the authorized property contact what changed and which door is involved. The commercial page covers the difference between an ordinary lock request and specialist systems that require separate confirmation.
Assess before choosing a part
A similar-looking replacement on a shelf may not suit the door. The existing preparation, hardware condition and desired result should be considered together. Explain whether your priority is reliable closing, a working key or dealing with visible damage.
Ask what the proposed work addresses and what would remain a separate issue. The estimate questions can help you agree on a defined task rather than an open-ended list of parts. If you are currently locked out, start the conversation with that access problem.
